‘Kings of the Sun’, 1963, which sounds like the worst/best movie ever. This TCM review, under the heading “Bad Movies I Love”, had me in hysterics.
“We have several very long sequences in this movie when Brynner is in captivity in a dimly lit structure. When Joe MacDonald’s camera lingers a bit long on his bodacious, baby oiled self it’s impressive, but you don’t know if you are seeing an actor indulging his narcissism or creating a character attuned to Nature. If posing fetchingly in half-light that highlighted one’s muscularity were acting, you’d have gotten a dozen Oscars for this movie alone, Mr. Brynner! So, yeah, Yul, you’re a hunk, but could you please put on that bird feather cape and cover up a little? “
